Stockpiling To Beat Inflation

Stockpiling To Beat Inflation

While it is a tough topic and even a controversial topic to discuss, we all have to admit that we have seen grocery prices going up steadily since 2008.  While the government scrambles to keep us away from hyper inflation by pulling every kind of trick they can cook up, the reality is, economics is a simple system with predictable results.  Gold and Silver are not sky rocketing because people have developed a sudden new appreciation for their natural beauty, people are afraid and they are afraid for very real reasons.

We do not live in the America of 1955 or even the America of 1978, this is the 21st century with the dollar on the brink.  Using coupons effectively today to prepare for what could be extremely high food prices tomorrow can help your family get through tough times when grocery store shelves could be stripped bare as people rush to buy what they can while they can.

Now is the time to start stocking up on things you can throw in a deep freezer, dry goods, canned goods and household supplies.  Don't be caught out when prices soar too high for you to cope.  An ounce of prevention is often worth six tons of cure.

Coupon Doubling

What Is Coupon Doubling

Depending on where you live and what stores you usually shop at you can maximize the value of your manufacturer's coupons through coupon doubling.  Coupon Doubling is when a store will double the value of the coupon when you redeem it at the register.  Some stores have membership cards and will double coupons only if you have one of those cards which are usually free and require only your name, address and phone number in most cases to get signed up on the spot.  Some stores have double coupon days from time to time when they will double the value of manufacturer's coupons.  The best thing to do is to check with your store.  If you store does double you should also be aware that sometimes they will only double up to a certain value.

Not All Coupons Can Be Doubled

Even if you locate a grocery store that does offer double coupons, keep in mind that not all manufacturer's coupons can be doubled.  How do you know which ones can be and which ones cannot?  The first and most obvious way is that the words "do not double" or something to that effect is printed right on it.  The other way is to look at the barcode on the coupon.  The first digit in a coupon barcode is generally either a 5 or a 9.  Barcodes with a 5 mean the coupon will double, barcodes with a 9 mean the coupon will not double.  Keep in mind that even if the barcode begins with a 5, if the coupon says "Do Not Double" on it then it cannot be doubled. This information is made available to you here on Coupon Flea Market on every listing, check out the sample below to know where to look.

As you can see from this example the Barcode reads a 5 BUT the bright red message clearly says that this particular coupon cannot be doubled.  If you do not see that message and the barcode is a 5 then it is safe to assume that this coupon will be eligible for doubling if your store offers a coupon doubling opportunity.

So now that you know the basics about Coupon Doubling check your local store and start hunting for those extra valuable double eligible coupons right here on Coupon Flea Market!

Coupon Food Locker

Couponing For Disaster And Survival

Disaster can strike at anytime and come from a variety of sources.  We all know that preparing in the present can save us in the future.   Knowing how to use coupons can help you create a stock of non-perishable emergency food and other household goods that can enable your family to weather the tough times that can follow in the wake of a disaster.

In the 1950's America prepared for "the bomb" and it wasn't unusual to run across someone who had a few month's worth of canned goods and dry milk stocked up just in case.  In today's world we tend not to worry too much about most things and always assume that no matter what, things just won't get that bad.  Even as I write this there are thousands of people recovering from the tsunami in Japan who probably thought much the same thing.  In the days and weeks that followed the tsunami there were real concerns about getting food and supplies to people in areas that were cut off, that does not have to happen to you.

If you look at the FEMA website they recommend having a three day supply of food and water, but if you look at how disasters really go down like they did in Katrina, three days is probably short of what you should have on hand.  Once again lets consider the current crisis in Japan, a country that had a much better emergency system in place than FEMA ever even thought of putting in place; those folks went short of supplies in days and people were still stranded and cut off from easy reach of rescue for nearly two weeks.

Using Coupons Will Create Surplus

Just by using coupons to save money on a regular basis you will find that you have a surplus of a good number of things.  If you take a few of the non-perishable foods and other supplies and stow them in a sealed container here and there you are gradually moving toward assembling a food locker that can sustain you for days, weeks and in some cases months.  The best part is that you are not spending extra money to build your food locker, you are saving more money than you would have if you were still buying groceries and paying full price like everyone else!

Keep Your Eye Out For Stuff That Counts In An Emergency

Not all of the things that you can use a coupon on are things that you will need or can even store for an emergency but many of them are.  Here is a short list of things that every survival oriented person will recommend that you have, please bear in mind that this is not necessarily all that you need but it is a list of things that you will commonly find coupons for right here on Coupon Flea Market.

  1. Bottled Water - This is a no brainer.  FEMA recommends that a person drink about a half gallon of water per day depending on their size and climate.
  2. Canned Food - Once again a no brainer.  Look for coupons for canned items that do not need much or any preparation.
  3. Dried Foods - Not all dried foods are worth storing for emergency.  Water being precious in a disaster, you may not want to place things that require a lot of water to cook!  Chips, granola bars, cereals, dried fruits and the like are all non-perishable foods that you don't need water to prepare.
  4. Toothbrushes
  5. Toothpaste
  6. Soap
  7. Bandages - Look for variety packs.
  8. Toilet Paper
  9. Razors
  10. Deoderant - not a survival necessity but certainly goes a long way toward making cramped qaurters more pleasant and keeping up moral.  If you have space available, a little deoderant is good.
  11. Antiseptics - Alcohol, Hydrogen peroxide
  12. Ointments - Neosporin, Bactine and other ointments for treating wounds and burns
  13. Pain Relievers - Tylenol, Advil and other household pain relievers have a place in any emergency kit.
  14. Batteries - AA, AAA and 9V batteries operate most of our modern electronics.  For disaster situations go alkaline... rechargeables not so much
  15. Pet Food - If you have a pet then they need to eat something too.  Consider the pet in your water supply as well.  Sure dogs can drink all sorts of stuff that would probably do you in but there could be serious contamination after a disaster and even dogs have a limit.
  16. Diapers
  17. Baby Food
  18. Baby Formula

Save A Neighbor, Save Yourself

One of the most wonderful things that I have seen come out of the Japanese disaster is the incredible spirit of good will toward neighbors.  Families are helping one another when and if they can.  With the huge surplus that couponing can help you to accumulate you may be in a position to help others in need if your own needs are not so severe.  The houses just down the street could be flattened while your own is just fine, their needs could be extreme while you may need little or nothing, if that's the case why not help out!  Also food becomes extremely valuable in a crsis, someone may not be willing to give you a can of case for $100.00 but they may well take a case of canned corn in trade!

Rotate Your Stock

One of the important things to remember is to keep refreshing your cache of supplies. Yes canned foods and dried foods last a long time but they don't last forever.  Cans can rust, packaging degrades so when you bring new stuff into your home go ahead and rotate out older items from your emergency store and consume them today.  If packaging has become compromised dispose of the item!

Store Items Safely

You don't want to store your vital emergency supplies on the floor. Place items on raised shelves in case of flooding!  While most of the food and sundries that you will be able to stock up on will cost you little or nothing it owuld not hurt to take some of that savings and invest in sturdy, water tight containers.  If you have to move containers make it easier to grab and go as well as keeping your supplies safe from water damage and other contamination!

Extreme Couponing

How To Save Big With Coupon Flea Market

With the economy seeming to be unraveling before our eyes things are getting harder and harder for American families.  Who would have ever imagined that a television show about using coupons would be a smash hit on a major TLC (if you have not seen "Extreme Couponing" check out the TLC website for show times)?  Being an extreme couponer like some of the folks on the show is a little more work than a lot of people have time for, that is where Coupon Flea Market comes in.  This article will give you a brief introduction to the idea behind Coupon Flea Market and how you can save hundreds of dollars on groceries.

Manufacturer Coupons + Store Sales = BIG SAVINGS

The key to maximizing your grocery dollar is taking advantage of manufacturer coupons on items that are already on sale at your local grocery.  Many manufacturer coupons (most of them in fact) can be combined with in store sales to give you a lot of mileage for your food dollar.  Many local grocery stores may have a buy one get one free (BOGO) sale on your favorite brand of pasta or cereal, that is a great deal right?  What if you added to that a manufacturer coupon for $2.00 off the box of cereal that is $3.00?  You would get two boxes of cereal for $1.00 for a savings of $5.00!  If you did that on cereal, bread and juice ans saved $5.00 on each purchase you just walked away from the grocery store with a $15.00 savings!  Could you use an extra $15.00 every week?  A lot of people just do not realize that you can use manufacturer coupons on sale items, now you do, so now you can save!

It is not at all difficult, with a little planning to turn a $300.00 grocery bill into a $50.00 grocery bill or if you really know the game, a $2.00 bill.  It sounds hard to believe but check out the video below to see a spot from TLC Channel's series, "Extreme Couponing".  You can do it too!

Stocking Up Is The Key

The big sales on the brands that you prefer don't happen every week and the manufacturer doesn't release coupons on those brands every week.  The best way to save is to stock up on the items that you want when the sales and the coupons line up to allow you to get the most mileage from your dollar.  We drink about a pound of coffee every week in my house (I drink a LOT of coffee), so when our grocery store has a buy one get one free sale I make sure to buy as much as I can BUT I bring along the coupons and instead of spending $60.00 for 10 bags of coffee I only spend $20.00!  That ten bags will last me about ten weeks which is right about when the next sale on coffee will go on at the grocery, so I never pay full price for coffee and save $160.00 a year on coffee alone!
But wait a minute... to do that you would have to buy 10 Sunday newspapers at $1.00 each so that would knock my savings down a bit, plus I would have to cut out all the coupons!

No Need To Clip, No Wasting Time, No Pile Of Papers

Coupon Flea Market is the missing piece of the coupon puzzle.  We have a community of coupon clippers who do nothing but locate the best, big money saving coupons and clip them for you!  I just did a quick search and found that I can get 20 $2.00 off coupons for Caribou Coffee from a seller on Coupon Flea Market for $1.25!  I don't have to spend $10.00 on newspapers and clip out 10 coupons I just spend two minutes on www.couponfleamarket.com and spend $1.25 to save $30.00 for a net savings of $28.75.
